Letter: Food drive earns stamp of approval

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

The National Association of Letter Carriers, in conjunction with the United State Postal Services, sponsored and participated in the "Stamp out Hunger" food drive in our community May 9.

This event was co-sponsored by Campbell's, Priority Mail, United way, Valpak and Feeding America.

The Yuba City, Live Oak and Sutter carriers left cards to alert their customers of the food drive and the card said "It's the day your letter carrier carries more than mail!"

All food collected will remain and be distributed in Sutter County and used in the Sutter County Brown Bag program.

Yuba-Sutter Gleaners Food Bank sponsors this program. There are 333 families registered in the program. This program received a grant for calendar year 2009 from Sutter County Community Service Block Grant. This donation allows the program to offer a greater variety of food and also extend the grant dollars.

Applicants for the monthly Brown Bag must be at or below the poverty level in order to qualify for the program.

To the letter carriers, we want you to know how great we think you are organizing and collecting all the food for this drive.

To the post masters, thank you to John Batch, Yuba City post master; Talisyn Russel, Live Oak post master; and Debbie Hunt, Sutter post master.

To the community, thank you for your generous donation of food.

PAY HIKE?
What should the board of trustees do with the proposed $29,282 pay raise for Chancellor Nicki Harrington?
Rescind it. Now is not the time.
Give it to her. She should be compensated fairly and competitively.
