The Gridley High boys basketball team was eliminated from the Northern Section Division IV playoffs on Wednesday night by No. 1 Corning.

PLAYOFF BASKETBALL: Gridley boys, Maxwell girls ousted in semis

The Gridley High boys basketball team's bid for a return trip to the Northern Section title game came up one game short.

The Bulldogs were ousted in the Division IV semifinals by top-seeded Corning 50-43 as Gridley ended its season with a 17-11 overall record.

Corning will face Orland in the D-IV championship at Chico State on Saturday.

Senior Mat Scott went out in style with a 16-point game, while Shobi Khan, Sam Cota and Tyler Abrego each scored eight points to round things out for the Bulldogs.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Butte Valley 42, Maxwell 38

In Maxwell — The Panthers led by five after three periods of play, but the No. 4 Bulldogs hit three consecutive 3-pointers in the fourth to steal the momentum and held off top-seeded Maxwell late to earn a victory in the Northern Section Division VI semifinals.

Kaily McKinley led the way for the Panthers (16-6) with 15 points and 16 rebounds, while Jenna Powell finished with seven points and seven rebounds. Jessie Otterson added seven points, Ashley Azevedo had four points, four assists and three steals, and Shelen Boyes tallied five points and three steals in the loss.
