100 years

Acting upon the advice of City Attorney Waldo S. Johnson, the case against J.E. Strain, who was arrested for a violation of the automobile speed ordinance was dismissed by Judge Langdon of the police court. In asking for the dismissal of the case, city attorney Johnson stated that he believed that public opinion is against the 10 mile limit and did not think that it would be possible to secure a conviction if the case were re-tried by a jury.

50 years

When Charles Sanders of 1306 H St., Marysville was aroused from sleep about midnight by the door bell, he groggily opened the front door and beheld a Halloween ghost. "Let me in," the ghost said, Sanders told police he simply stared at the "ghost" without a word. "Let me in," the ghost repeated and drawing a large pearl-handled knife, slashed the screen of the door. Sanders fainted dead-away. He told officers the next thing he knew it was 15 minutes later and his wife had arrived home from work, revived him and called the police. The ghost had vanished.

25 years

Flashing lights in the evening sky produced by a Minuteman II missile launched from Vandenburg Air Force Base startled many area residents and prompted numerous calls to Yuba City police dispatchers. The twilight aerial display was visible in four states as fading sunlight reflecting off the missile's wake tinted the sky, blue, red, yellow and turquoise.

Construction has begun on the third stage of the Highway 99-70 widening project. The $10 million project widened the highway from two to four lanes from a half-mile north of Elverta Road to a little over a mile north of Sankey Road. It is part of the overall widening project of Highway 99 between its junction with Interstate 5 and Highway 70 in Sutter County.

10 years

Fremont-Rideout Health Group plans to purchase a West Marysville warehouse as part of a hospital storage consolidation plan. The vacant 28,200-square-foot building at 1104 J St. was once occupied by a Montgomery Ward storage facility.
