Y-S girls see their future in math, science

More than 400 eighth-grade girls from Yuba-Sutter schools visited Yuba College on Friday to see what professional women who majored in math and science have done with their lives.

At the American Association of University Women's 15th annual Math-Science Conference, the girls saw firsthand the practices of a veterinarian, a criminalist, a KC-135 instructor pilot, an emergency medical technician and a dermatologist.

The purpose of the workshops is to show young girls that women can excel in careers that rely primarily on math and science, said AAUW member Sheila Eden.
