Yuba men's soccer team opens BVC with first win of season
Local Roundup - Daniel Ramirez figured in two goals Tuesday as Yuba College's men's soccer team won its first match of the season, a 3-0 triumph over host Lassen in Yuba's Bay Valley Conference opener.
Ramirez scored the 49ers' (1-10) first goal off a carom. Dirceo Ramirez took a shot on goal and the Lassen keeper blocked it. Daniel Ramirez got the rebound and put the ball back into the net.
Daniel Ramirez assisted on Yuba's second goal, which was struck by Dominic Brooks.
The 49ers' final goal came in the second half off a cross from Octavo Soro to Abel Acevedo, who headed the ball into the net.
Coaches praised the defensive play of Leonel Zarate, Cheron Sereday and Marnix Ramirez.
WOMEN'S SOCCER
Yuba 3, San Francisco City 0
Yuba continues its great year by moving to 8-0 with defense that allowed only one shot on goal.
Kami Kapaku had a goal and an assist for the 49ers, while Chandler Davis and Noe Bio each had a score.
Ashley Claire and Lianne Mickey each had an assist.

BOYS SOCCER
Marysville 3, Capital Chr. 3
The Indians (5-3-1, 2-1-1) let a 2-0 lead slip away in the second half and it took a Nelson Machuca penalty kick to tie the game in a Golden Empire League match in Marysville.
Machuca scored one of the Indians' two first-half goals on an assist from Jared Lizardo. Jose Rivera added a goal eight minutes into the game on an assist from Kevin Morales.
The Cougars scored three goals in the second half to go ahead 3-2.
Lindhurst 4, Golden Sierra 0
Miguel Vasquez scored two goals and assisted on the other two scores to help Lindhurst improve to 3-0 in the Golden Empire League.
John Martinez and Jaime Urbina each scored a goal for the Blazers and Luis Martinez added two assists.
VOLLEYBALL
New Life Chr. 3, North Hills 1
New Life Christian (3-3) opened North Pacific Athletic Conference play with a 21-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-22 win over host North Hills of Fairfield.
Brittany Hargis and Raman Kaur led the Crusaders with solid serving. In the second game, the two combined to serve the last 13 points. In the fourth game, the two served 16 points.
New Life coach Ron Strickland noted the Crusaders missed just one serve in the third game, serving 95 percent. Melissa Crittendon had nine service points in the first game.
River Valley 3, Live Oak 2
River Valley improved to 2-9 with a tough win over Live Oak, 22-25, 25-22, 25-23, 17-25, 15-12.
Mary McReynolds had nine aces and four kills and Victoria Davis added nine kills for the Falcons.
Colusa 3, Williams 2
Evelyn Soto had 23 service points, six aces and 13 assists to lead Colusa (3-2) to a 10-25, 25-16, 25-16, 20-25, 15-11 victory.
Alice Vanfleet scored 13 service points and had seven blocks and four kills for the Redskins.
East Nicolaus 3, Winters 0
The Spartans moved to 12-3 with a 25-6, 25-13, 25-17 win.
Alyse Uhland had 13 service points, seven aces and five kills while Madison Rivera also had 13 service points along with five aces and four digs.
Kayla Ledford had seven kills.
GIRLS TENNIS
Yuba City 9, Pioneer 0
The Honkers (10-0, 6-0) rolled to a Tri-County Conference victory over the visiting Patriots.
Shannon Cassidy, Madeline Stephens and Breanna Wallace each won 6-0, 6-0 in singles play. Helena Lancaster (6-2, 6-0), Stephanie Suen (6-1, 6-4) and Maribel Pabalan (6-3, 6-2) also earned singles wins.
Miranda Martinez-Madison Bevacqua (6-2, 6-0), Manjot Grewal-Lauren Iverson (6-0, 3-6 (10-7)) and Aimee-Terry-Claire Sweeny (6-1, 6-1) each teamed for the Honkers' doubles victories.
Live Oak 6, Mercy 3
The Lions improved to 2-3 in the Sacramento Valley League North with a victory at home.
Kran Jhutti opened singles play with a 6-2, 6-3 victory, and Rachel Dewitt (6-0, 6-3), Laci Rogers (6-2, 4-6, 6-3) and Vivanna Alvarado (6-3, 6-0) added singles wins.
The doubles teams of Jhutti-Dewitt (8-1) and Rogers-Avalos (8-2) each won.
Natomas 5, River Valley 4
River Valley (0-6) couldn't find that elusive first win as its lost a tough match to Natomas.
Lotta Schaffer won 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 followed by Anna Wy who won 6-2, 6-4 in singles play.
Ramardeep Kavir teamed with Kulvir Gill to win 6-7, 7-6, 7-6 in doubles play and Mey Saechav teamed with Kathy Javalosa to win 6-5, 6-4.
JV BOYS SOCCER
Marysville 5, Capital Chr. 2
Matt Deluz and Eddie Terriquez scored two goals each in the Golden Empire League victory at home.
Jake Waggoner added the Indians' final goal. Kenny Her had three assists and played great in the midfield.
Yuba City 2, Pioneer 1
Alex Vasquez and Jack Rosenburg each scored a goal to help the Honkers (13-4) move to 5-1 in the Tri-County Conference.
JV VOLLEYBALL
Live Oak 2, River Valley 0
The tough year continues for River Valley (0-9) as it fell, 25-17, 25-23.
Cori Bierstecker had two blocks while April Goodman had three kills.

Yuba 0-6 in Santa Rosa
Melissa Chapman had 13 kills and three blocks to lead Yuba College's volleyball team at the Santa Rosa Classic. The 49ers lost both scrimmage matches and all six games to Santa Rosa (30-12, 30-24, 30-19) and College of the Sequoias (30-28, 30-16, 30-18).
