What's Happening in Stonyford: Firefighters' taco fundraiser today

By Linda Trombley

For Tri-County Newspapers

The Bear Valley-Indian Valley Fire Department is having its Indian Taco fundraiser today from 4:30 p.m.-8 p.m. They will have a raffle as well, including a quilt by Judy Elliot from our local quilt group, Sew What!?

Proceeds will be used for firefighting and medical supplies. Our Fire Department is all volunteer, and they do a great job. Please come out and support them.

Tuesday dinner at the Grange is chicken enchiladas, with rice and beans and dessert. This is by request from many of the diners. We had this dish last fall and sold out. Shirley is cooking, along with a little help from her friends. We're planning on corned beef and cabbage on the 19th in honor of St. Paddy's Day.

Also at the Grange, bingo is on Wednesday nights at 6 p.m. The weekly bingo is growing very nicely. Thank you to all who participate.

Chit Chat is Wednesday at noon, hosted this month by Linda McD. and Jackie R. Bring your best dish.

There won't be Sew What!? on Wednesday; the Grange is in use. But I'm planning on a trip to Paskenta for their quilting potluck with show-and-tell afterward. If anyone is interested, give me a call, and we may be able to carpool. 218-7234.

Indian Valley Elementary is having its lasagna dinner on March 23 from 4:30 p.m.-7 p.m. Proceeds go toward their expenses on their field trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. They will be going in April, staying overnight, and visiting one of the early California missions. The lasagna is always good, and they are happy to serve dinners to-go as well as eat-in.

I ran out of chicken stories, but do I have an animal story.

On our last trip to Alaska, we were visiting a nature center that has trails into the woods. Some returning hikers said there was a bear sighting, up a ways. So, daughter Laurie and daughter-in-law Kathy are heading out for a walk. When they hear that, they talk Larry, dad, into going along.

You know the old joke, don't you? You don't have to be able to run faster than the bear; you just have to be able to run faster than the slowest one in the group. I know, it's an old joke. It just happens to be true, too. I'm not sure Larry saw the humor there.

I think we're going to have a craft sale at the Grange in April. Like a flea market, rent a table, bring all that craft stuff from your closet or cupboard that you thought you were going to use, and never did. We can shuffle it all around, and it can live in someone else's closet for a while.

Rodeo coming up, the first weekend in May. Yahooooo!?
