Gold Sox in road victory

The Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox finally found a way to win on the road.

Brennan Garr and A.J. Valentine each had huge three-run hits and the Gold Sox thumped the host San Luis Obispo Blues 9-3 Tuesday in a California Collegiate League game.

The Gold Sox pounded out 12 hits and allowed the Blues just six.

It was only the second road win for the Gold Sox in eight tries dating back to last year. It was also the third time the Gold Sox (15-3, 7-2) have defeated the Blues (14-8, 3-5) this year.

Garr hit a three-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to give the Gold Sox a 5-3 lead while Valentine iced the game with a bases-clearing double in the seventh for a 8-3 advantage. Valentine later scored the final run.

Garr's home run was the Gold Sox third of the season, all coming against the Blues. R.C. Dickerson and Buddy Morales each hit extra-inning homers in the Gold Sox 5-4 14-inning win over the Blues in Marysville on June 10.

Blake Knabenshue got the win and improved to 3-0 after coming on in relief of Nick Waechter in the fifth. Waechter gave up two runs in the fifth, allowing the Blues to take a 3-2 lead.

Knabenshue pitched 32/3 innings, allowing no hits and no runs.

Dickerson put the Gold Sox on the board in the first inning after his bloop-single to right scored Morales. Jason Searle drove home Cameron Shick in the third inning for a 2-1 lead.

The two-game road trip ends today with another game against the Blues before the Gold Sox return home on Thursday to take on the Sacramento Legends.
