Letter: Some innovation sans government

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

I don't believe our government could babysit a 10-year-old, let alone plan for the future of genarations to come. Why can't they simplify things down to a level that is workable?

We already have a government option for health insurance — Medicaid. Let's fix this progam and offer it to anyone who wants it and charge premiums according to income.

If they really want to cut costs for us on private health insurance they could pass a reform on the industry that would do away with group rates, open up interstate bidding and make insurance premiums tax deductible.

Now, let's forget about tax and trade and do something that would really start the ball rolling on alternative fuel vehicles. Let's take all post office vehicles and convert them to electric or hydrogen. Our military could engineer and our American car companies could produce. This could start the infrastructure and logistics to convert all of America as time goes on.

The only problem with these ideas is the government would not be gaining any power over us.

PAY HIKE?
What should the board of trustees do with the proposed $29,282 pay raise for Chancellor Nicki Harrington?
Rescind it. Now is not the time.
Give it to her. She should be compensated fairly and competitively.
