Letter: Something smells at River Highlands

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

Guess what? The huge Yuba Highlands housing project (5,100 homes) next to Beale Air Force Base would be governed by the River Highlands Community Services District. This is the same unfortunate district (at Smartville) that recently experienced a total failure of its sewer system, which in turn produced odor along Hammonton-Smartsville Road.

Yes, the district (Gold Village) has had major problems with finances, lawsuits, sewers, water, etc., for at least 10 years. There are 84 homes, and these people are unfortunate victims.

This district should never have been formed by the Yuba County supervisors in the first place, some 15 years ago. Big mistake. Still in dire straits, with no solution in sight, it may have to be dissolved.

And now three Yuba County supervisors (Logue, Nicoletti and Schrader) want to compound the problem by putting Yuba Highlands, with its 5,100 homes, into the same district. What can they be thinking of? They voted for Yuba Highlands.

It’s obvious that the district can’t take care of 84 homes; how can it be expected to take care of 5,100 more? The smell from the 84-home sewer system is one thing, but how about the smell from a 5,100-home sewer system? Pee-whew!

Vote "No" on Yuba Highlands on Feb. 2.
