Talk Back: Home runs, deadly roads, Black Friday

Former Yuba City High star and Oakland A's prospect Max Stassi hit 100 home runs on Saturday for charity.

Max, putting aside your talent, dedication and execution of today's feat (100 homers), I commend you for the care and kindness you extend to those who really need it. Hopefully you comprehend just how many lives and hearts you touch of those that are less fortunate. A job well done. "you the man."

— Audie Murphy

Thank you Max for bringing this great community together to support those that are in need at this special time of year.

— Virgil Atkinson

Six Yuba-Sutter residents have died in vehicle wrecks during the last two weeks, marking one of the deadliest periods on local roads in recent memory.

I offer my sympathies to all the families that have lost loved ones. Please people, where ever you are going, it will still be there when you arrive.... slow down and be safe.

— Dennis Speek

Seat belts may have cut these casualties in half, buckle up people!

— Michael Allen

So sad. People should take it as a reminder to always say I love you to your loved ones you never know if it will be the last time you talk to them. My heart goes out to all the families and friends of these people.

— Tasha Hinesley

Shoppers stormed the stores for Black Friday.

Every year it's the same story. Merchants have created Black Friday. It used to just be a convenient day for people to start Xmas shopping since so many people have the Friday after Thanksgiving off. Retailers began to fuel this by offering good sales and opening sooner and sooner. Now Black Friday starts on Thursday. Next they will tell you to start your Black Friday shopping while you're buying your Turkey for Thanksgiving. Personally I think people lining up at midnight really need to reassess their priorities in life.

— Michael Allen

Christmas is the season of giving, NOT the season of being trashy and greedy. I'm sure Jesus is so proud you hit someone over the last Xbox. Lame people.

— Natalie Smith Zunino

Only in America will people push, shove, and fight anyone only a few hours after giving thanks for all they have!

— Rachel Hawkins

We need an ordinance to regulate Black Friday shopping before this violence gets out of hand. The holiday season is probably the worst time for everyone to start acting like we live in Mogadishu.

— Terry Comer

When I think of Christmas, I think of Linus standing on the stage and quoting from Luke 2:9 to illustrate the meaning of the season. All of this shopping frenzy might be important for the economy and the health of the retail industry, but it really dampens the holiday spirit.

The great unwashed running amok.
