Corning High School homecoming: Let the fun begin
Homecoming at Corning High School is a week of festivities and fun which will culminate Friday with a parade, alumni dinner, crowning of a queen, class floats and much more.
For weeks now freshman through senior students have been meeting at clandestine spots to construct class floats which will be highlighted in Friday's Homecoming Parade.
Everyday this week the school's has been celebrating Spirit Week in preparation for Friday's events, and lunchtime has been a bevy of homecoming activities focused on this year's theme - "The Cardinal's Will Survive," focusing on the Cardinal's surviving natural disasters.
Friday's Homecoming Parade begins at 3 p.m. and will run along Solano Street.
Riding high-style in the parade will be Homecoming Queen Cassie Ramirez and her royal court.
Ramirez, 17, the daughter of Miguel and Ellie Ramirez, is on the school's leadership team and holds a 3.0 grade point average. Her homecoming escort is Corning High School senior, 17-year-old Jesus Diaz, the son of Juana Diaz and Felipe Diera. He is a member of the school's Interact Club and California Scholarship Federation, and holds a 3.76 grade point average. Junior Princess is Maria Diaz, 16, of the daughter of Rafael and Julia Diaz. Her escort is 16-year-old Nicholas Hoag, son of Chris and Diane Hoag.
Chloe Maday, the 15-year-old daughter of Randy and Corine Maday. Her escort is Manuel Garcia, 15, of the son of Jesus and Hermalinda Garcia.
Tania Navarro is this year's freshman princess. She is the 14-year-old daughter of Teresa Navarro and Antonio Navarro. Serving as her escort is Trenton Conoly, 15, the son of Jeremy and Shelley Conoly.
Alumni honored this year are the 1962 Goldens and 1987 Silvers.
The famous Homecoming Dinner will be held in their honor on Friday from 4:30 to 7 p.m. in the Corning High School cafeteria. Golden grads, Cardinal football team members and coaches, referees, and Homecoming Royalty will dine for free. A $4 admittance fee to high school staff, Sliver grads, senior citizens, children under 10, band and drill team members, cheerleaders, and visiting teams and coaches.
The fee for all other diners is $6.
In between the J.V. and Varsity football games the Golden and Silver alumni graduates will be introduced.
This will be followed by the introduction and parade of Class Floats with the winner announced as the last float makes its way around the football field.
Coronation of the Homecoming Royal Court will be held during the Varsity game half-time.
