Yuba-Sutter homeless receive free blankets, care

The smile on Annie Montagne's face said it all.

Standing in line for two hours on Thursday paid off for Montagne, 29, of Linda, and a group of homeless friends who each received a blanket to help stay warm during the cold winter months ahead.

Montagne arrived early at First United Methodist Church in Marysville to make sure she got clothes and a blanket, items she said she couldn't afford if she had to pay for them. More than 300 people waited in line to take advantage of the free services being offered at the seventh annual Homeless One Stop sponsored by the Sutter-Yuba Homeless Consortium. The twice yearly resource fair is starting its fourth year of service for area homeless.

Tarps, clothing, blankets, bicycles, toiletries, haircuts and a hot meal were a few of the many services being offered.
