Honkers champs again

It is just as sweet the second time.

The Willows High football team, its fans and the community celebrated another Northern Section Div. III championship on Wednesday — the Honkers second straight title.

"The beginning of the season we were down, not really thinking we could win. We took some talking from the coach and between us, and finally decided let's go for it, it's our last year, why not," senior captain Eduardo Briones said after Willows' 21-20 victory over host Hamilton High.

"I don't know what it is, I don't know if it's the mentality of these kids, I don't know. They're clutch, they've got ice in their veins," Willows coach Jim Ward said.

Willows got to the title game by handing Pierce its first loss of the year last week, a rainy overtime win in Arbuckle.

And the Honkers proved they are true road warriors with their win over the Braves.
