Sheila L. Verhaege

Sheila Lorraine Verhaege, 83, of Fairbury, Ill., died Sept. 21, 2006, at Gibson Area Hospital in Illinois.


Born in Covina, she was a Yuba-Sutter resident for 30 years, living in District 10, before moving to Illinois in 2003.


She was a bookkeeper for JEM Farms, Ernie's Toyland and the Yuba College Bookstore as well as the Yuba City Bike Shop, which was owned and operated by her husband.


Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Van Houten of Fair Oaks and Arlene Plant of Gig Harbor, Wash.; a brother, Samuel Jones of Arnold; a sister, June Hammond of Denver, Colo.; a granddaughter; and four great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Roger Verhaege; and a granddaughter.


Donations may be made to the First Baptist Church, 406 S. Fourth St., Fairbury, IL 61739; or a charity of choice.


  • Services: A graveside service is scheduled at 11 a.m. Friday at Burwood Cemetery, 28320 E. River Road, Escalon. A memorial service will be held Oct. 7 in Illinois. Arrangements are under the direction of Deegan Funeral Chapel in Escalon.
