Letter: Is health care a service or industry?

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

I admire your strong stand on individual rights free of government restriction and oversight.

Certainly the financial meltdown starting with Wall Street demonstrates there is a place for government in the lives of the people of a democratic country.

If you have done business with one of the companies in the health care industry, and if you are aware of people you know who have suffered from that industry’s disregard for the service they are supposed to provide, as the industry does what industries do best, create income for investors, you must also be aware of Single Payer Health Care.

In order to provide vital information to your readers, I invite you to research this important topic and print an article, or a series of articles explaining how it works, accurately, and whom it benefits, with a cost analysis by different groups.

You could find the cost analysis most interesting since the profit making groups will have quite different numbers than the not for profit plans.

I have seen figures that show that the administrative costs alone could provide health care for all people, were they to be done away with by government agency with government paying health care services directly, eliminating the insurance industry.

Two questions I would like to see you answer: Do you believe it best for all people to have health care?

Do you believe health care is a service or an industry?

P.S. I receive Social Security.

My $600+ from the government for health care goes directly to an industry that takes that money and supports politicians for reelection, buying lobbyists that work against my quality health care, and for insurance company profits.

This is a misuse of my Social Security money.

PAY HIKE?
What should the board of trustees do with the proposed $29,282 pay raise for Chancellor Nicki Harrington?
Rescind it. Now is not the time.
Give it to her. She should be compensated fairly and competitively.
