Letter: Tierra Buena tired of Hillcrest issue
In 2003 we residents of Tierra Buena had a similar issue with Hillcrest water, except that we had a nitrate issue. The City of Yuba City sent out very informative literature about what our options were – I personally felt it was great. I choose to pay $294 a year extra on my tax bill. I also could have paid $24.50 a month on my water bill. So Hillcrest is getting a deal for $19.80 a month.
Let me ask you – what choice does the city have? Give it to you for free? I don’t think so! Or you can go out and purchase your own reverse – osmosis system for about $8,000 to $9,000. Let me share with you how my water is now: I no longer have to use my water softener; my water supply main between the street and my home will last longer, which is the homeowner’s responsibility; my water heater will last longer; no more bottled water – the list goes on. To me it’s worth it for the amount I’m paying.
The Tierra Buena community is not as upscale as Hillcrest residents. Just take a drive around – our neighborhood is very diverse, and I’m sure we have just as many senior citizens as Hillcrest, but we never felt or at least I didn’t that the city was shoving anything down our throats. The only thing the city is shoving down our throats now is good clean fresh water.
