• Occupation: Retired — I worked with the Sutter County Road Department for 10 years and then for the Wheatland School District for 26 years.

• How long have you lived in the Yuba-Sutter area? I was born here and am a longtime resident. For a while I lived in Prosser, Wash.

• Hobbies, interests: I travel all over California and like going to San Francisco Giants games

• For what groups do you volunteer? The Sutter County Commission on Aging for the past 12 years and was chairman for two years. The commission meets once a month.

Mended Hearts at Rideout Memorial Hospital for about six years. Volunteers, who all have recovered from heart attacks and heart surgery, visit others who are recovering from heart surgery.

I started volunteering after I retired in 1988 and saw an ad in the newspaper. I first volunteered with the Sutter County Sheriff's Department for one year.

• How did you get involved with these groups? I saw the information about the Sutter County commission in the newspaper; I got into Mended Hearts because I was in rehabilitation and that was a connection to my situation.

• How do you fit it into your schedule? I let everything go at home.
