Local martial artists descend on Yuba City

More than 200 competitors descended on River Valley High in Yuba City on Sunday for the annual Shotokan Karate USA West Coast Championship. Hosted by the Miladi Karate Academy since 1994, the purpose of the tournament is to promote Karate-do and its traditional style, bringing all Karate-ka together, regardless of political affiliation. The Academy's goal is to establish strong bonds and working relationships with other Karate-ka and their organizations in an ongoing effort to promote unity in the sport of karate. The tournament features competitions in kata (forms), kobudo (forms with a weapon) and kumite (sparring) that are broken up by age and skill level.
