PREP VOLLEYBALL: River Valley, Yuba City stay tied for first
The River Valley High volleyball team bounced back from Tuesday's setback to cross-town rival Yuba City with a crucial victory over Tri-County Conference foe Pioneer on Thursday.
The Falcons outlasted the Patriots 25-17, 25-21, 25-15 at home.
With the victory, River Valley improved to 17-2 overall and 5-1 in conference and remained tied with the Honkers at the top of the standings.
Taylor Massengale dropped 19 kills, McKenzie Skyberg had 14 assists and Amrita Dale recorded 11 assists.
Sierra Pedley scooted for 12 digs.
The Falcons' JV team topped Pioneer 23-25, 25-20, 15-11 to improve to 10-3 overall and 4-2 in TCC play.
Mariah Hall tallied 11 assists, six kills, three digs and two aces. Jessica Ruiz added seven kills to go with three aces and Lauren Kroeger picked up five kills and 12 digs.
Janet Reygoza and Lizzie Milner both were credited with solid defensive play.
Yuba City 3, Inderkum 0
In Sacramento — Maddie Collins had seven kills, seven blocks, four aces and three digs and the Honkers cruised past Inderkum 25-6, 25-5, 25-20 in a TCC match.
The Honkers improved to 11-12 overall and 5-1 in conference with the win.
Brittany Walker had 13 assists, five kills and two aces and Ally Reines recorded 12 digs. Savannah Shoup notched three aces and three kills.
The Yuba City JV team topped Inderkum 25-21, 25-15 to improve to 11-2 overall and 6-0 in conference.
Summer Williams had eight kills, Alex McElfresh recorded five kills and Laura Solorio dished out 17 assists and two aces.

In Olivehurst — With middle blocker Kiley DeLozier out for the season due to injury, Crusaders coach Ron Strickland hoped a few players would step up in her absence — that's exactly what happened.
Elicia Villafranco, Rachel Whiteley and Hannah Hruska combined for 24 kills and the Crusaders rolled Trinity Prep 25-8, 25-17, 25-12 in a Northern Pacific Athletic Conference match.
Villafranco and Belle Knight also combined to record 30 service points for New Life, which improved to 9-2 overall and 5-0 in conference.
