John Wilkins
John Wilkins, 73, of South Lake Tahoe died Aug. 30, 2006, at his residence.
Born in Denver, Colo., he was a former Yuba-Sutter resident, graduating from Marysville High School in 1951 and attending Yuba College.
A teacher who began his career in Yuba City, he moved to South Lake Tahoe in 1964 and taught in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District for 31 years.
Also, he was a coach for many youth sports including wrestling, basketball, football and baseball. He also participated in several sports leagues including basketball and softball.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956, attended Yuba College and received his teaching credentials from Chico State College in 1964.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Linda Wilkins of South Lake Tahoe; two sons, Jeff Ludvigson of Quincy and Brian Wilkins of Long Beach; two daughters, Elizabeth Schue and Sarah Sullivan, both of South Lake Tahoe; a sister, Jenny Pierce of Redding; a brother, Everett Wilkins of Medford, Ore.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandsons.
Donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, Ronald McDonald House or a charity of choice.
Services: Visitation is from 5 to 6 p.m. Sunday at McFarlane Mortuary in South Lake Tahoe. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 1041 Lyons Ave., South Lake Tahoe.
