Letter: Why share the ‘dream'?
The California Dream Act encourages noncompliance. Why should people come to the U.S. legally if you can get free money whether or not you are legal?
In October, Gov. Jerry Brown signed a law granting Cal-Grants to illegal immigrants. The law states that the person must have attended a California high school for at least three years and must show they are in the process of becoming legal.
I did my research and found out that it only takes 12 to 15 months to become a legal citizen. So after attending high school for three years, why are they still not citizens? Plus, with only waiting about a year to head to college, why can't they become legal and then apply for a grant? I think it's extremely unfair to those who go through the process to become legal because the illegals are now getting close to the same benefits.
Who would bother going through of becoming legal when all you can do is hop a border not get caught and get free money? Which seems easier?
