It's Spirit Week – let the fun begin

Crazy socks, pajamas, hearts and crowns — New Life Christian School is definitely in for some fun.

The coming weeks will be full of activities that involve our students getting loud and showing some spirit. Here at New Life, we are all about getting down and working hard, but there's something about getting together and acting goofy that makes us excited. It also gives us a chance to compete against the other classes!

What is this all about? Next week is Spirit Week, when every day includes a contest to see which class can get the most participants involved in the daily spirit activities.

From following the instructions for daily dress-up (with themes such as Pajama Day, Twin Day and Nerd Day) to competing in activities, class skits and rallies, all NLCS students get a chance to represent their school.

"I'm excited for Spirit Week because you get to go crazy and have some fun. I'm totally going all out by painting my face and everything," said junior Elicia Villafranco.

Not only will the students get a chance to represent their school, they will also get a chance to represent their senior class by crowning the homecoming king and queen at our last home game.

This special event is just a way to spoil the senior class, a privilege that allows us to get all dressed up and have our favorite secretary, Sue Bancroft, introduce us to our fans and share with them about what we want for our future.

As if that week isn't fun enough, there will also be another event going on: the annual "Drama and Dessert."

"Drama and Dessert" is put on by the senior class. It pushes us out of our comfort zone and allows us a chance to entertain people as well as raise money for our senior trip.

As a senior, I can tell you that "Drama and Dessert" consists of weeks of preparation and a lot of commitment. It is probably one of the most enjoyable things that I have ever had the chance to do, but it also takes a lot of work and is by far one of the most nerve wracking things I have done.

"I can't believe I am going to do this! I'm so excited, I can hardly wait," exclaimed senior Rachel Clark as we finished up one of our rehearsals.

"Drama and Dessert" will be a night full of fun. Not only is it going to be a night of excitement, but it's also a night about love and laughs. We decided to hold it on Valentine's Day — that way, couples can enjoy a date that's fun, close by and inexpensive.

New Life students are anxious and ready for the next couple of weeks. Showing school spirit is more than screaming and sporting our schools colors. It's a chance to show our appreciation and gratitude for our school, and we wouldn't want to have it any other way. All I can say is let the school spirit begin.
