Letter: Headline ‘ideological ranting'

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

This letter is in reference to the March 12 Appeal-Democrat front-page article headlined “Wally’s World among nation’s unhealthiest.” I take offense in your ideological opinion that people living in the Yuba- Sutter live in “Wally’s World.” This liberal left-wing attack on our congressman, Wally Herger, is totally uncalled for. You have effectively insulted the majority of citizens living in California’s Congressional 2nd District.

Congressman Wally Herger was just re-elected by a majority of Yuba-Sutter voters. There is a place for this type of left-wing view in your paper in the opinion section, not on the front page reporting “news.” A definition of “news,” as I hope you know, is reporting facts of a “news” event.” Ideological ranting like this on a news story reminds me of The New York Times reporting of the news in their liberal eyes. The New York Times  is close to going bankrupt because of dwindling subscriptions.

If this type of reporting continues, I will give considerable thought to canceling my subscription of the Appeal-Democrat.

Robert Cramblett

Yuba City

Editor’s note: The story was based on the findings of a national survey as well upon interviews with local residents, a local official and a local academic. The use of “Wally’s World” in the headline was a pop-culture reference.

PAY HIKE?
What should the board of trustees do with the proposed $29,282 pay raise for Chancellor Nicki Harrington?
Rescind it. Now is not the time.
Give it to her. She should be compensated fairly and competitively.
