Letter: 'Can't cure cancer with a Band-Aid'
I would like to reframe some of the discussion on “healthcare reform.” I looked up the definition of the word reform and found the following: make changes for improvement in order to remove abuse and injustices. Using this simplistic definition, I think we all agree that we need “healthcare reform.”
I think where the disagreement begins is whether or not to reform our current systems, or to start a whole new program.
Why can’t we do both? First, let’s fix what is broken with Medicare, Medicaid, Veterans Administration, worker’s comp and private insurances. Then, when those programs are straightened out and running efficently, address a new program for those who remain either uninsured or underinsured.
You can’t cure cancer with a Band-Aid.
