Letter: Red-light violator questions fees

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

I had my red-light camera photo taken at Lincoln Avenue and Garden Highway.

After reviewing the film online, it was questionable but I chose to pay the fine. I went to the courthouse to pay the fine of $415 that came out of Arizona.

The clerk asked me if I was going to attend traffic school, which I told her I was, and she told me that would be an additional $49. I then asked if that covered the fee that the traffic schools charge and she said “no.”  So really that charge of $49 is for administrative fees.

Do the math: If the photo light takes 100 pics a day at $49 just for administrative fees, where are the monies going? Is it to the county or the state? And just think – this is just in one county alone. Who set the times on the photo camera lens?  Do you really know who is behind the camera?

HOMELESS SHELTER?
Yuba City is considering using the former fire station No. 4 on Walton Avenue as a cold-weather shelter for homeless families. Is this a good idea?
Yes. We've gone too long with limited options for homeless families.
It's a good idea, but the fire station is a bad location for this.
No. The city has better things they can use the building for.
I'm not sure.
