Steve Limper believes you have to see a little bit of humor in everything that comes along.

Steve Limper

Name: Steve Limper.

Age: 60.

Family: Two daughters and a granddaughter.

Residence: Yuba City.

Occupation: Retired after 30 years with the California Highway Patrol.

Hobbies, interests: I love any boat that floats, motorcycles, military antiques, art. My house is a little museum.

Where do you get your news? I subscribe to the Appeal. I'm old-fashioned — I love the page-turning thing. I do the Internet also. I check the Sacramento, Redding and Chico papers. And I watch Sac TV news.

What brought you to the Yuba-Sutter area? Born and raised here — second generation.

What is the closest you've been to a famous person? Well, I gave "Stymie" of the "Little Rascals" a ride home when he broke down on a Los Angeles freeway.

If you were granted one wish, what would you wish for? Get rid of lobbyists, state and federal.

What would you do with a million dollars? I'd like to recreate a stagecoach trip. I'd like to have a stage line.

Whom do you most admire? Those people who've pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor for liberty.

Tell us about a life-changing experience: 1991, when my wife was diagnosed with cancer.

Favorite places in the area: The reservoirs. I like to row my boat on Ellis Lake and ride my horse at the river bottoms north of the 10th Street bridge.

What makes you laugh? Just about everything. I've found over the years you have to see a little bit of humor in everything that comes along.

What are some of your fondest memories? Friday and Saturday nights at the Yuba Sutter Drive-In. Also, my family did a lot of road trips.

What would you change about the community? Synchronize the lights on state highways through towns. And general cleanup of the area. If you want to make a good impression, clean up.

What was your first job? Delivering newspapers for the Appeal-Democrat.

What was the last good book you read? The most recent is "Six Horses," about early stage coaching and the West.

What is your favorite movie? The best Western ever made — "The Good, The Bad and the Ugly."

What is your worst fear? Probably dying alone.

Favorite television show: The History Channel.
