Letter: Power line may not be necessary

As landowners close to one of the proposed sites of the new power line, we have come concerns. I have did some research on transmission lines and have found that Western Area Power Administration has some options of what type of transmission line and towers that they can. They should be questioned about what type of transmission line they plan to use and encouraged to use ACCC aluminum composite core power line made by Composite Technology Corp of Irvine.

 Aluminum composite core transmission line reduces line losses by 30-40 percent, its lighter weight, meaning it would take less line. Lower line losses means less power generation and less greenhouse gas emissions to serve the same load. Greater conductivity, lower thermal elongation and the ability to withstand higher operating temperatures allow transmission companies to double the capacity of existing lines without making tower modifications. Higher strength and a substantial reduction of thermal sag allows transmission planners to reduce the number and/or height of towers and thus, the overall project cost of the new corridor.

It would also mean that their would be less land taken away from landowners and less of those big unsightly towers. It could also be possible to rewire the current system with ACCC composite core, making it more efficient and possibly reduce the need for a new power line.
