Live Oak forces one more

Courtney Souza threw a four-hitter and struck out seven as Live Oak staved off elimination with a 15-5 victory over Sutter Area in the District 2 Little League junior softball all-star championships in Live Oak Saturday night.


Live Oak scored one in the first, four in the second and nine in the fifth. They added a run in the bottom of the sixth after which the game was called because of the 10-run mercy rule.


Souza accounted for three runs, and stole five bases.


Souza said she's confident in her team's ability to work together, and she can't wait for today's game.


The teams square off at 7 p.m.


"We're going to have a really good game. Our team will really need to keep their heads in it, but I'm still very confident," Live Oak manager Latrisha DeWitt said.


Erica Ruiz and Allison Yanez each smacked in two RBIs for Live Oak, while Ruiz scored two herself. Tera Sizemore, was 2-for-4 with one RBI, while sister Lindsey Sizemore also drove in a run.


Stephanie Taylor had an RBI.


Sutter Area came into the game undefeated in the tournament, including a win over Live Oak.


Pitchers Kelli Ziegenmeyer and Evangelina Evans allowed six hits, gave up seven walks, and struck out seven.


Ziegenmeyer also drove in a run, while Danna Denton, Miranda Hammons, and Tierney Foster each knocked in one run as well.


Sutter Area scored three time in the first and added two in the fifth.
