Driver flees after crash
A 46-year-old Chico woman was trapped inside her brand new Ford Fusion after being struck by a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pickup at 9:55 p.m. Saturday just east of Woodson Bridge on South Avenue.
The California Highway Patrol reported Kimberly Sue Ludwig's eastbound vehicle was struck nearly head-on by the pickup when the unidentified driver of the westbound Chevy pulled into the eastbound lane to pass and failed to see the oncoming Ford.
The impact caused Ludwig's vehicle to crash into the southside guardrail, trapping Ludwig inside. The pickup continued traveling a short distance before it too collided with the guardrail, the CHP said.
The driver fled on foot. Ludwig, who suffered minor injuries, was extricated from her vehicle and refused medical treatment.
