Disney acquisition of Marvel Comics a surprise to many
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The big shocker this week came Monday, when Disney announced it was buying Marvel Comics for $4 billion.
Before the acquisition, Marvel was doing extremely well with the movie adaptations of its characters. Disney buying the company was a total surprise.
Since the deal was just announced on Monday, nothing major has happened as of yet. The best thing that could come from the deal is Marvel collaborating with Pixar on a feature film adaptation.
This deal probably won't mean that Zac Efron will sing and dance his way through the next "X-Men" movie or the Jonas Brothers will perform all the music on "Iron Man 2."
Disney may be a soulless, evil corporation with enough money to convince people Miley Cyrus has talent, but it wouldn't do something that dumb.
In the future, you could see Iron Man or Captain America walking around Disneyland or riding an X-Men-themed ride at California Adventure. If there's one thing Disney is good at (besides buying everything that can be bought), it's promoting its wares via its theme parks.
Universal Studios Florida beat them to the punch on this, however. The park's Marvel Island has several rides and restaurants based around Marvel characters.
With the new deal, either Disney will start a long legal battle to end the previous deal between Marvel and Universal, or the Mouse House will be nice and buy out the contract.
Yeah, like that will happen.

Speaking of business deals, Lindsay Lohan is reportedly considering a $900,000 offer from Playboy to pose.
"Playboy has been asking her for years, but it's only now she's excited about doing it," said one source.
If the 23-year-old Lohan accepts the deal, she should pose with 83-year-old Playboy founder Hugh Hefner so we can see who has more wrinkles and looks older.
