Wilhite wins it with a walk-off
Gold Sox edge Mudcats 3-2 in 9th
After two summers with the Marysville Gold Sox, Mitchell Wilhite has more than made his mark in the Mid-Valley area.
On Friday night, he added yet another chapter to his Gold Sox legacy.
With the score tied 2-2 in the bottom of the ninth inning, Wilhite delivered a two-out, RBI single to plate Justin Charles, lifting Marysville to a 3-2 victory over the Solano Mudcats at Appeal-Democrat Park.
Marysville (34-11) has won three in a row and 12 of its past 14 games as the Sox look to end their 2012 season on a hot streak.
They close out the season with a two-game series against the Sacramento Legends, beginning tonight at 7 p.m. The season finale is Sunday at 6 p.m. against the Legends.
Though they fell short of repeating as Horizon Air Summer Series champions, the Gold Sox are giving the home crowd plenty to cheer about.
After falling behind 2-0, it took Marysville eight innings to mount some offense.
Wilhite provided Marysville's first run with an RBI double that plated Johnny Rubino. Justin Lamb followed that with his own RBI double to knot the score at 2-2 in the eighth.
Wilhite has put together an impressive summer with the Sox. He's been held hitless in only three games this season.
Patrick O'Rourke picked up the win in relief.
