PREP ROUNDUP: Marysville soccer moves to 3-1
YC, RV volleyball pick up victories
It's only four games into the 2012 season and the Marysville High boys soccer team has already surpassed its win total from last year.
Led by a hat trick from 2011 A-D All-Area forward Thomas Mehler, the Indians shut out Highlands 3-0 in North Highlands on Wednesday.
Coach Steve Tennis credited Eddie Medina with strong play in the midfield. Medina assisted two of Mehler's goals.
Goalkeeper Freddy Terriquez was solid in the goal with five saves, stopping two breakaways, while Erik Tinoco and Jaime Tinoco played well defensively for the Indians (3-1).
VOLLEYBALL
Yuba City 3, Union Mine 2
In El Dorado — The Honkers pulled off a come-from-behind victory over the defending Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV champs.
Down 2-1, Yuba City rallied back to win the final three games and take the victory by game scores of 26-24, 21-25, 18-25, 25-19, 15-13.
Senior Maddie Collins tallied 19 kills and made 11 blocks defensively. Junior setter Brittany Walker dished out 37 assists, served two aces and had two kills.
Jennifer Mora tallied eight aces and Ally Reines was outstanding in the back row with 28 digs and she served four aces.
The Honkers host Lincoln on Friday at Honker Gym.
Yuba City's JV team defeated Union Mine 2-1 with game scores of 25-18, 16-25, 15-12.
Summer Williams tallied four kills, Alex McElfresh had two kills and Caroline Van Ruiten totaled three aces and three digs.
River Valley 3, Lincoln 0
In Lincoln — Taylor Massengale had 16 kills and five blocks, McKenzie Skyberg dished out 18 assists and the Falcons improved to 3-0 on the year with a straight-set victory over the Fighting Zebras.
Game scores were 25-5, 25-13, 25-18.
Sierra Pedley recorded eight digs, Meaghan Bains added six kills and Amrita Dale chipped in with three aces in the victory for RV.
