Howell tabbed Lions' MVP
Jeremy Howell earned most valuable player honors on Live Oak High's boys basketball team at the recent awards banquet.
Other awards went to Jovanni Perez (defensive MVP), Samuel Corona (most improved) and Abdul Gorsi (coach's award).
Howell, Perez and Corona also earned all-league honors in the Sacramento Valley League North.
Matsumoto posts hole-in-one
Martin Matsumoto of Yuba City recorded his first career hole-in-one Wednesday at Plumas Lake Golf & Country Club.
Matsumoto used a 4-hybrid club to ace the 161-yard seventh hole.
Witnesses were Ruben Martin, Lee Lancaster, Don Beach and Mickey Hook.
Marysville track opens March 17
Late models and modifieds rejoin the chase when the Marysville Raceway Park opens its 2007 season March 17.
The two new classes will be joined by the local points divisions of street stocks and mini-stocks.
Gates open at 3 p.m., with racing slated to begin at 5 p.m.
The track is located on Simpson Lane just south of Marysville.

Comments sought on refuge hunting
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is seeking comments on the draft environmental assessment supplement for the Sacramento River National Wildlife Refuge.
The report was prepared as a result of the Fund For Animals lawsuit against the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and focuses on cumulative impacts regarding the Sacramento River National Wildlife Refuge's hunting program that was implemented in 2005. A 30-day public review and comment period begins today.
