PREP SOCCER: Marysville tops Lindhurst; YC beats RV

The Marysville High boys soccer team received two second-half goals to top Golden Empire League rival Lindhurst 2-0 on the road on Monday.

The match was scoreless at the half, but Thomas Mehler delivered two breakaway goals on a drenched field.

"It was a mudhole," said Marysville coach Steve Tennis. "But it was probably our best game of the season."

Eric Tinoco and Neil Lingenfelter provided the assists for Lindhurst.

With the win, Marysville (10-6-1 overall and 4-4-1 in league) sits all alone at third in the league standings, good enough for a playoff berth with one game remaining.

Andrew McFarland and Keith Staples were credited with oustanding defensive games by coach Tennis, while Freddie Terriquez recorded five saves at goalkeeper.

Yuba City 1, River Valley 0

In Yuba City — After another first-half scoreless deadlock, the Honkers finally found the net after Miguel Coyazo scored in the second half.

The win now improves the Honkers to 9-5-4 overall and 6-3-1 in the Tri-County Conference. While River Valley (12-3-2 and 7-2-1) already clinched the conference title last week, the Honkers are looking to earn a second-place or third-place finish in the TCC, both are good enough for a postseason berth.
