Letter: Reject fraudulent Measure T

Measure T is the biggest fraud ever perpetrated upon the voters of Yuba County. It is promoted as "saving agriculture." The opposite is true. It will harm agriculture and every citizen not living in a developed community boundary, and it will serve as a major inconvenience to every voter in Yuba County.

Read Measure T for yourself: "All general plan amendments, rezoning, specific plans, parcel maps, conditional use permits, building permits, or other ministerial or discretionary entitlements for use not yet approved or issued shall not be approved or issued unless consistent with the provisions of this Initiative."

In reality, every request for even a minor use permit will have to come to a vote of the people. Do we really want to vote every time a farmer wants to put in a fruit stand or a rural resident wants to build a home on his property?

Don't we have a general plan and a building department to oversee these minor requests? This is an unnecessary, poorly written, initiative imposing controls on private property.

A large developer can pass the cost of a special election to the new home buyer. Measure T, however, harms the ordinary citizen who will not have the means, so will not try, to apply for a building permit, a use permit, or a lot line adjustment.

This measure is an assault on private property rights and should be defeated with a resounding no.
