Political Briefs: Y-S Chamber of Commerce opposes Measure T

The Yuba-Sutter Chamber of Commerce has added to the list opposing Yuba County's Measure T, with its government affairs committee voting to do so earlier this month.

After hearing a presentation from both sides, committee members voted in opposition because they saw potential negative impacts on small businesses and land owners.

Members cited the example of Napa County, which approved a measure T is based on. There, a golf course needed public approval to allow nonclub members to eat at its restaurant.

Yuba County Supervisor Hal Stocker, Measure T's principal supporter, said he believes the measure is necessary to keep open space and agriculture from being rezoned by supervisors sympathetic to new development.

Herger, Logue to speak

Retiring US Congressman Wally Herger and 3rd Assembly District candidate Dan Logue are scheduled to speak and answer questions this evening at a Yuba-Sutter Tea Party event.

There is no charge for attending the event at 6:30 p.m. at the Veteran's Hall, 17th and B streets, Marysville. The doors open at 6 p.m.

Light refreshments will also be free.
