Other Views: Soldiers deserve best medical care

President Bush broke ground recently for a military medical facility that will replace the troubled Walter Reed Army Medical Center, but you didn't hear him address the problems at that hospital.

Or did you?

While not directly criticizing the Walter Reed facility, Bush's words left no doubt that he was acknowledging the severity of problems that were allowed by hospital administrators to languish.

There must be a show of commitment by our government to deliver a standard of care the troops rightfully should expect. No priority is higher than going to the expense of treating those who sacrificed their bodies for this nation.

The mentality that the military medical system was designed to reduce the government's cost of care for veterans must change. Only then will Bush's wish for "the joy of recovery" echoing through the halls of a new facility be realized.
