74th Anniversary: Montgomery

Yuba City residents Olen and Doris Montgomery, the former Doris Blasingame, celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary Oct. 21 in Yuba City.

The celebration was hosted by their children and grandchildren.

The couple were married Oct. 21, 1935 in Clayton, N.M. – he would ride his horse 20 miles each way once a week to see her while they were courting – and have been Yuba-Sutter residents for 40 years.

He retired as a car dealer at John C Bayes and is a former business owner.

A veteran of World War II, he is also a former member of the Old Time Fiddlers Club.

She is a homemaker and served as a Pink Lady at Fremont Hospital for several years.

Both are members of Grace Baptist Church in Yuba City and enjoyed traveling in their motor home.

Their family includes three children, John Montgomery of Gridley, Debbie Carmack of Sutter and Monty Montgomery of Whittier; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
