Morales HR wins it in 14th
Home runs have been scarce in the previous eight games in Marysville.
Gold Sox catcher Buddy Morales and center fielder R.C. Dickerson might have not had the best odds of hitting the first two of the year, but that's exactly what they did Thursday night.
Dickerson hit a tiebreaking, two-run homer with two outs in the 11th inning, and Morales won it in the bottom of the 14th with a two-run shot over the left-field wall for a wild and crazy 5-4 win over the San Luis Obispo Blues.
Morales, a catcher from Sacramento State, unloaded against Blues reliever Jeremiah Vantresca (1-1) with Frank Jeney aboard. Yuba-Sutter was down 4-3 entering the inning when the Blues pushed across the lead run in the top half of the inning.
Nick Waechter (1-0), who just arrived in town on Wednesday, picked up the win. Waechter was the Gold Sox' fifth pitcher of the night in a 4-hour and 15-minute marathon.
Dickerson was actually down to his final strike in the 11th. He hit a 3 and 2 breaking ball and unloaded over the right-field fence against reliever Todd Nelson.
The Gold Sox improved to 8-1 overall, 5-0 in the California Collegiate League. The Blues are 9-4 overall, 0-1 in league play.
