Occupation: Midshipman at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., in the class of 2016. I was also accepted at West Point and various UC campuses.
Why decide on the Navy? Ever since I was a kid when we visited San Diego and the Navy ships, I thought of the Navy. After four years at the academy, I will serve seven years in the Navy and Marine Corps.
Aside from family and friends, what do you miss about the Yuba-Sutter area? The weather; it's better here than in Maryland.
Hobbies, interests: Video games, working out.

What brought you to the Yuba-Sutter area? I was born in Peru. My family came here when I was 3 years old. My dad retired from Beale Air Force Base.
Where would you like to settle down someday? San Diego; that's where I saw myself being.
Who has had a strong influence in your life? My dad — ever since I was a kid, he's told me that once something is done, you can't change it, so he's made me an optimist, a person focusing on the future.
Do you have a favorite memory to share? The day I got my acceptance to the Navy academy.
What was one of the first things you did during your leave during the holidays in the Yuba-Sutter area? I missed my house, so I stayed home, people came to visit. And I visited the Yuba City High School baseball field.
What is your dream job? To work for the president after I get out of the service — that would be awesome.
What would you like to see different in the Yuba-Sutter community? More nighttime security, or events for kids to do.
What is your pet peeve? When I see people quit.
What do you like about yourself? Being optimistic and always giving everything I have (to a project).
