Butte Vista School

• First-graders recently completed activities in reading and writing using a Martin Luther King Jr. theme.

• On Friday, advanced and proficient students will receive awards and recognition during a school assembly.

• Fifth-graders are preparing for a week at Shady Creek, an outdoor science camp.

Lincoln Elementary School

Yuba City

• We are having several awards assemblies for academic progress and citizenship.

First-graders will have their assembly today at 1:45 p.m. in the multi-purpose room.

The awards assembly for grades four and five will be at 1:45 p.m. Friday, also in the multi-purpose room.

• Also on Friday is the Purple Ticket Luncheon. Students who receive a "purple ticket" for good behavior put those tickets in a jar. Once a month a ticket is pulled out in each classroom and those students get to have lunch with Principal Lisa Shelton.

• Friday is also Spirit Day. Students are encouraged to "Dress like a Teacher."

• Next Wednesday the kindergarten students will have their awards assembly.

Tierra Buena Elementary School

Yuba City

• Jan. 31 will be the first PTA meeting of 2013 at 7 p.m.

• The band will take part in an All District Band Concert at 7 p.m. Feb. 5 at Riverbend Elementary School in Yuba City.
