Letter: Nurses should reject tentative contract

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

The California Nurses Association has tentatively agreed to a contract with Fremont Rideout Hospital Group, pending a ratification vote by the RNs.

CNA has put out a flier informing FRHG nurses of the reason why they encourage the nurses to vote to accept this contract (“It is Time for a Contract”) and all the monetary gains nurses will obtain.

The “last, best and final offer” proposed by the hospital months ago, and voted on by the nurses 19 months ago, has no improvements regarding the vital issues.

In fact, CNA surrendered its stand on a closed shop.

The previous recommendation from CNA was to “reject this insulting offer.”

But, after nearly three years of no money from the nurses, CNA’s instruction is to accept it now.

Decertifying CNA is a far better option than accepting any contract, especially this one.

Over 250 signatures have already been collected and will be turned in soon.

Contact me if you would like to join the majority; your signature would help cement the petition.

The vote is set for today at the Bonanza Inn. (Look for CNA fliers for the times).

I am encouraging that every nurse attend the vote to reject this contract.

The results of the vote will be determined from only the nurses who go to vote.

Shawna Van Dusen,

RNC Yuba City

PAY HIKE?
What should the board of trustees do with the proposed $29,282 pay raise for Chancellor Nicki Harrington?
Rescind it. Now is not the time.
Give it to her. She should be compensated fairly and competitively.
