70th Anniversary: Nyby
Marysville residents Royal and Irma Nyby, the former Irma Beals, recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
The couple were married Jan. 30, 1943, in Santa Ana and have lived all over the world before settling in the Yuba-Sutter area 14 years ago.
Their former residences include Garberville; Rochester, Wash.; and Texas.
He served in the US Air Force for 23 years, including as a pilot during World War II, and retired as a lieutenant colonel. He worked for the US Postal Service while the family lived in Santa Rosa for more than 20 years.
She taught elementary school starting with first grade, then taught remedial reading before finding her passion in special education. She also served as the first teacher-director of Head Start in Sonoma County in the early 1960s.
They have four children, Alicia Hrico of Marysville, Jane Heuser of Santa Rosa, John Nyby of Bethlehem, Pa., and the late David Nyby; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
