Letter: Obama's influence positive on students

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

I know everyone involved in advocating for children and their families was relieved that our local school district restricted access to President Obama’s recent speech – Lord knows what he may have said.

I know MJUSD is working hard to build motivation and keep our at-risk children in school. But if President Obama’s message wasn’t part of your goal- oriented curriculum, maybe it should be. If you have an alternative approach to reaching our children, please let us, the community, know how we can help.

With all the negative influences challenging our children, they need all the positive role models we can muster. Yes, even a Democratic president may have something good to tell our children. The school district’s actions feed the division already bedeviling our society and did nothing to “protect” the students in your community. Our children need all the inspiration we can deliver.

Please let us know how we can help.

PAY HIKE?
What should the board of trustees do with the proposed $29,282 pay raise for Chancellor Nicki Harrington?
Rescind it. Now is not the time.
Give it to her. She should be compensated fairly and competitively.
