Letter: Olivehurst residents aware

Olivehurst residents are not to blame for the cuts to the fire service in Olivehurst.

The proposal in June to raise a fire assessment to keep the department solvent might have passed if that had been the only issue. However, in addition to the increased fire assessment, the proposal also would have given Olivehurst Public Utility District the authority to change the assessment at any time in the future without ever requiring voter approval again.

Maybe we're better at seeing the big picture than some people would like.
