What's Happening in Stonyford: A chicken came home to roost

By Linda Trombley

For Tri-County Newspapers

Our chickens came home to roost! Well, one anyway.

We had 11. We started with about 20, actually. And over time, one at a time, they would disappear. They usually went at night if we forgot to lock them up. We figured it was coyotes or raccoons or whatever lurks at night.

Our brother Ted even heard one being taken in daylight. Then, a couple of months ago, we went from 11 to 10. And now there are 11 again. This is an event. Not one has ever reappeared before. She seems to be fine and happy to be back.

As a bonus, the peacocks are back. They spent the fall visiting our neighbors, Bob and Joann. We're happy to see them, too. I hadn't thought about them living as free birds until we came to Stonyford. They seem to do quite well on their own.

Tuesday Dinner at the Grange will be beans and hamhocks, white rice and cornbread, with dessert and coffee or punch included. Laurie and Shirley are the cooks this week.

Chit Chat is Wednesday at noon, Cheri is the host. The Sew What?! ladies will not meet this week.

Bingo was fun last week; we saw some new faces. The next bingo will be Jan. 23

Zumba is working out. (Working out, get it?)

I spoke to Mr. Smith, the new pastor at the community church. He says it's a privilege to be here, the people are wonderful, in town and well as the church-goers. He's happy to be here.

Grange is having a clean-up day on Feb. 2. Bring your rubber gloves and come on down, or a rake or clippers, or whatever. The Grange welcomes new members Penne, and Jesse and Jennifer.

Cake Walk is scheduled for 6 p.m. Feb. 9. It's a Valentine theme this time. We need volunteers to bake for us. And we hope you all will come out and join us. There will be a snack bar with hot dogs, chili dogs, and other treats. It's fun for all ages.

If you want to volunteer, or exchange any information, give me a call, 218-7234.
