Hi-4H helps families in need

Members of the Colusa County Hi-4H adopted families for the holidays.Teen leader Kaily McKinley, back left, helped organize this year's project of four families.

The Hi-4H group served lunches at the Arts and Crafts Expo and donated their proceeds to this project.

Additionally, they received donations from Louis Cairo's, Maxwell 4H, Colusa 4H, Williams 4H and New Life Christian Church in Williams. Household items, blankets, clothes, toys, gift cards and food were given to local residents in need.

One family was a victim of violent crime; one had a medical condition preventing him from working; one was a senior citizen in dire financial condition; and one had two children needing a caring hand.

In addition, the group collected coats and took them to a local mental health facility where they rely on donation for 90 percent of their clothing.

"It really made me aware of what a difference we can make in people's lives," said McKinley. "I want to do even more next year."
