Change a life
I know it is the holiday time of year. Thanksgiving is the time we sit down with loved ones and share a meal or we give food to the ones we can help. We feel great about ourselves because we are helping the poor and hurting. I want to say “thank you” for doing that but that is going to last for only a couple of hours or days and the food will go bad.
God calls us to feed the widows and the hurting but is he talking about food?
Jesus told us in Mathew 4:24 he will make us fishers of men. It is important to meet the needs of people, but we need to share the true meal with people – the meal of Jesus’ body broken for you and his blood shed for you. He loves us because we all are sinners and need to take of the meal that Jesus has for us.
Most of us have heard or learned John 3:16 either as a child or as an adult. I am so thankful for that Scripture and how it changed my life. How loved I feel! But I never understood why I was afraid to share it with others. One reason I don’t share with my friends and loved ones is because I don’t feel like I am worthy.
Another is we want to be liked and approved of and even worshiped ourselves. In Genesis 3:5-8, Eve said she wanted to be worshipped.
We don’t want to be the outcast. But God tells us that the truth will set us free. I became free when I heard the truth that Jesus loved me as a sinner and he went to the cross to set me free because I was a sinner. He wants to have a relationship with me and with you.
In church language, I am talking about evangelizing and looking past your reputation to setting your friend and loved ones free for eternity. My reputation is not all that important but God’s is.
I want all of us to know that it is why we were created, to share the truth. It is OK to live out the Christian life and show people something different, but we also have to tell them the hard facts: We all are sinners, God loves you and he wants to set you free for eternity, not just for a season.
Don’t let your own desire to be accepted stop your friends and loved ones from being set free from the bondage of this world.
When we share the truth and we live it out, we will do it with love as Jesus did with us. It will take our friends time to grasp onto it and really see how great the real Thanksgiving meal tastes and how powerful it is.
Enjoy your meal !
