Letter: Mobilehome owners must exercise rights

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

There has been several letters to the editor lately in the Appeal-Democrat on mobilehome topics. I am glad to see it.

Mobilehome parks are cash cows. They make a great deal of money or the park owner wouldn't be in the business.

There are laws, Mobile Home Residency Laws (civil codes) and Title 25 of health and safety codes, plus other written laws and policies that are available. It takes a great deal of time and energy and money to fight these park owners who do not follow the law; they know that. So they go about whatever they want to do until someone steps in and tries to make them accountable.

Then that person is harassed, yelled at, intimidated and made to feel like less than a human being. That is absolutely wrong. But it happens every day in these communities as the seniors are tired; they don't need the hassle.

But there is hope. Currently there are bills before the state Assembly to give authority for certification of managers. Our governor vetoed it last year. It is needed to stop the fear tactics.

The park residents have a larger investment in their homes than the park owner does. The residents have to get involved and stand up at as group and take on these park owners on.

It can be done, it has been done and residents have won numerous battles. Residents need to say enough is enough and act as American citizens and not allow their rights to be violated.

This criminal activity will continue. Until we get our act together, mobilehome park residents will continue to lose.

What should the board of trustees do with the proposed $29,282 pay raise for Chancellor Nicki Harrington?
Rescind it. Now is not the time.
Give it to her. She should be compensated fairly and competitively.
