Marysville

Methodists host Passover speaker

A special presentation for Passover Sunday with a speaker from Jews for Jesus is scheduled at 10 a.m. March 3 at the First United Methodist Church, 730 D St., Marysville.

The speaker will set a table with items traditionally used at the Passover meal and explain the connection between the first Passover in Egypt and the Christian celebration today.

Lunch will be served following the service.

Loma Rica

Cookbook leads to LDS award

Keith Staples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Loma Rica received the Duty to God Medallion.

His service project was to produce a cookbook for young missionaries.

Requirements for the medallion include reading Scriptures, regularly attending early morning religious class and participating in ecclesiastic duties.

A senior at Marysville High School, Staples is on the varsity tennis and soccer teams. He is an Eagle Scout and has served as a California Boy’s State delegate.

LDS workers take volunteer duties

Several members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Loma Rica have accepted volunteer service assignments.

Dave and Sue Pietz of Browns Valley have returned for six months to the San Juan, Puerto Rico Mission. They previously served two years at the mission and one year at the Sacramento Roseville mission.

John Giles of Oregon House will serve as a LDS tech missionary, working from home via the Internet to assist in software development for the church.

Larry Neilson of Browns Valley is a historical records and research assistant for FamilySearch.org, a division of the church’s Family History Library based in Salt Lake City, Utah.

He specializes in Portuguese language documents as well as working with English, Italian and Spanish language requests.

Members serving two-year proselytizing missions are Craig Staples in the Paris, France Mission and Lennox Jacobson in the San Antonio, Texas Mission.
